- Perceptions et usages d’un chatbot dans les activités d’apprentissage /...
In the digital age, educational chatbots are gradually becoming essential tools in higher education. Their ability to interact in natural language and provide instant responses make them valuable allies for students seeking autonomy and flexibility. For an institution like Audencia, which values pedagogical innovation, it is essential to understand how these tools can enrich the learning experience.
Educational uses of chatbots
The uses of chatbots in an educational context are numerous. They serve as virtual tutors, helping to understand complex concepts, or even study companions, facilitating revision through interactive quizzes. Some programs, such as ChatISA, integrate specific modules for coding, project management or interview preparation, demonstrating the versatility of these tools in various contexts.
A study conducted in Sweden explored students' adoption and perceptions of ChatGPT and other AI chatbots in higher education. The results show that students perceive these tools as useful for their studies, but also express concerns about the reliability of the answers provided by chatbots.
Another research examined the use of a specialized chatbot as a tutor for early childhood education students. The study revealed that the chatbot was effective in clarifying doubts (91.4%) and helping with understanding concepts (95.7%), although its perceived usefulness for content review and exam simulations is lower.
Exam preparation and job simulations
As part of exam preparation, chatbots offer personalized support, allowing students to train in a targeted way and receive immediate feedback. Studies have shown that the use of chatbots in this context can improve students' self-confidence and their academic performance. Moreover, by simulating professional situations, chatbots prepare students for the challenges of the working world, strengthening their practical skills and decision-making ability.
A study evaluated the impact of an AI chatbot as a support tool for second-year students during final exam preparation. The results showed that students who moderately used the chatbot achieved better academic results, while excessive use did not lead to further improvements.
Another research highlighted that students perceive AI chatbots as very useful and motivating as personal assistants for academic tasks, offering immediate feedback and assistance with writing, coding, and other academic tasks. However, concerns remain about the accuracy of responses and the potential impact on students' critical thinking and creativity.
Perceptions and challenges
However, integrating chatbots into learning is not without challenges. If many students appreciate the availability and responsiveness of these tools, some express concerns about a possible dependence or a decrease in critical thinking. It is therefore crucial to supervise their use, by raising students' awareness of good practices and integrating these tools into a thoughtful educational approach.
Perspectives for Audencia
For Audencia, the adoption of chatbots represents an opportunity to strengthen student engagement and diversify pedagogical approaches. By integrating them strategically into the programmes, it is possible to create more interactive learning paths adapted to individual needs. This requires, however, close collaboration between teachers, students and developers, in order to ensure ethical and efficient use of these technologies. Some experiments took place, notably in the context of the IA Lab group on the last year or with faculty members as part of their courses.
